This simple Thank You card idea for beginners using the Simply Leaves Bundle by Stampin’ Up!® proves you don’t need lots of supplies or complicated techniques to make a handmade card someone will love receiving.

If you’re new to stamping, this is exactly the kind of card I want you to try. And if you’ve been stamping for years? Keep this layout handy for those times when you need a quick card without pulling out half your craft room.

The secret to this card is repetition. Instead of trying to create one big focal point, I stamped the same leaf image repeatedly down a narrow strip of Basic White cardstock.

I alternated Mossy Meadow, Misty Moonlight and Pool Party to create a simple pattern. That repetition makes one small stamp look like a complete design without requiring any special techniques.

This is a great trick to remember when you’re looking through your stamp sets. A small image that doesn’t seem very exciting by itself can look completely different when you repeat it several times.

August ordering Bonus

A Bonus for You!

Any order you place in August includes a free 10-project tutorial featuring the Stitched Season Suite that you can use with any Bundle in your stamp stash.

It’s filled with cozy, step-by-step card ideas to spark your creativity when your order arrives — so you’re not staring at supplies wondering where to start.

When you’re new to cardmaking, it’s easy to think you need all the things before you can make a pretty card.

You don’t.

There’s no die cutting on this card. No embossing. No fancy folds. You don’t even need the punch from the Simply Leaves Bundle. It’s just cardstock, ink and stamps.

The simple layers give the card a finished look without making the construction difficult. And because the design relies on basic stamping, it’s a great way to practice getting comfortable with your stamps and ink.

0824 Colors

Mossy Meadow, Misty Moonlight and Pool Party make a beautiful combination because you get dark, medium and light colors working together. Mossy Meadow gives the card warmth and an earthy feel. Misty Moonlight adds a softer blue that still has enough depth to stand out. Then Pool Party lightens everything up and keeps the card from feeling too dark or heavy. Using all three colors repeatedly in the stamped panel and sentiments also helps the whole card feel pulled together.

Instead of adding one large greeting, I stamped “Thanks” three times using the same three colors from the leaves. Each sentiment was cut into a small rectangle and placed at a different point along the stamped panel. I love what this does to the card. The sentiments become part of the design rather than something we have to squeeze in at the end.

And yes, I suppose saying “Thanks” three times means we’re REALLY grateful.

Supplies Needed

  • Mossy Meadow Cardstock: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" (scored at 4-1/4"
  • Basic White Cardstock: 4" x 5-1/4"
  • Misty Moonlight Cardstock: 2" x 5-1/2"
  • Basic White Cardstock: 1-3/4" x 5-1/4"
  • Basic White Cardstock: 1/2" x 1-1/2" (need 3)

Instructions

  • Fold the Mossy Meadow cardstock in half at the score line to create your card base.
  • Adhere the 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic White cardstock inside the card; decorate as desired.
  • Using Old Olive ink, stamp the checkered leaf onto a post it note – this will create a "mask". Stamp the checkered leaf onto the 1-3/4" strip of Basic White cardstock about 1" down from the top. Ink stamp again and stamp about 1" up from the bottom of the cardstock. (See sample for placement.)
  • Mask the top Old Olive leaf using the post-it note. Clean stamp and ink up using Pool Party ink pad; stamp above the checkered leaf, slightly overlapping it. Move the mask to the bottom Olive Olive leaf and repeat process.
  • Mask again the top Old Olive leaf using the post-it note. Clean stamp and ink up using Misty Moonlight ink pad; stamp below the checkered leaf, slightly overlapping it. Move the mask to the bottom Olive Olive leaf and repeat process. Remove mask and discard.
  • Stamp the "thanks" onto the 1/2" strip of Basic White cardstock using Pool Party ink. Clean stamp and repeat on the other 2 pieces of Basic White cardstock using Old Olive and Misty Moonlight ink, cleaning stamp between each color change.
  • Adhere the 3 sentiments to the card front as shown in the sample to finish.

While I used the Simply Leaves Stamp Set, this is another layout that’s easy to recreate with stamps you already own. Look through your craft room for a small flower, heart, star, butterfly or other simple image.

Choose three ink colors you love and stamp your image repeatedly down a narrow piece of cardstock. Then add a simple greeting. That’s it!

This is one of those card layouts worth saving because you can change the colors, stamps and greeting and make it work for birthdays, thinking-of-you cards, congratulations and so much more.
