Easy Birthday Card Layout using the Bloom Boutique Specialty Paper

Today’s easy Birthday Card layout using the Bloom Boutique Specialty Paper by Stampin’ Up!® is one of those card ideas I love because you can use the basic layout over and over again. Change the Designer Series Paper, colors, focal image, or greeting, and suddenly you have a completely different card.

This is the exact card we made during this week’s Coffee & a Card, our casual midweek craft break where we chat, sip on our favorite beverage, and make something wonderful.

And if you ever find yourself staring at your supplies thinking, “Okay…but what do I actually DO with all this pretty paper?” this layout is a good one to save.

The Bloom Boutique Specialty Paper does a lot of the work for us. Instead of covering the entire card front with patterned paper, I used it as part of the layout. That gives us plenty of pattern and interest while still leaving room for that large birthday focal point.

What I especially like about this design is the large rectangle in the center. It gives you a nice, defined space for your focal image and greeting. You don’t have to wonder where everything should go because the layout has already made that decision for you.

For this card, I used large blue flowers with the Happy Birthday greeting above them. But think about how easily you could change that center panel. You could use a different flower, a butterfly, a Christmas image, a large sentiment, or almost any stamped or die-cut image you already own.

That’s what makes this such a handy card layout to keep in your back pocket. You’re not saving one birthday card idea. You’re saving a card layout you can use again.

Hydrangea Hue and Peaceful Pine make such a pretty combination. The soft blue gives the card a fresh, peaceful feeling, while the deeper green adds enough contrast to keep everything from feeling too sweet.

And then there are those little touches of Gold Foil. The gold adds just enough warmth and shine to dress things up without making the card feel fussy. It also works beautifully with the specialty details in the Bloom Boutique paper. The result feels pretty and polished, but still very doable.

And can we talk about that Bloom Boutique Specialty Paper?

If you’ve ever bought beautiful Designer Series Paper and then struggled to actually USE it, this is a great way to start. You don’t need a huge piece, and you don’t have to cover it up with a bunch of layers. Instead, the paper becomes part of the design.

I also like how the two different patterns create interest around the center panel without competing with those pretty flowers. It’s a simple reminder that patterned paper doesn’t always have to be the star of the card. Sometimes it’s happiest playing a supporting role.

This may be my favorite takeaway from today’s Coffee & a Card. When you see a card you like, don’t just think, “I want to make that card.” Look at the layout.

Where is the Designer Series Paper? Where is the focal point? Where is the greeting? Which pieces could you swap out for something you already have? Once you start looking at cards that way, you suddenly have a lot more ideas sitting right in front of you.

So save this birthday card layout and try it again with another piece of Designer Series Paper. Change the flowers. Change the greeting. Make it a thank you card, thinking of you card, or Christmas card.

One layout. Lots of possibilities.
