Christmas cards don’t always have to be red, green, and covered in traditional holiday images. This Modern Christmas Card using the Woodland Wishes Bundle takes a completely different approach with playful woodland animals, an unexpected color combination, and just enough Christmas cheer to make the whole thing work.

The star of this card is definitely that wonderful stack of animals from the Woodland Wishes Stamp Set. There is so much going on in this one image, from the big polar bear at the bottom all the way up to the tiny bird balancing at the top. It’s whimsical, fun, and just a little bit silly, which I happen to think we could all use more of at Christmas!

August ordering Bonus

Any order you place in August includes a free 10-project tutorial featuring the Stitched Season Suite that you can use with any Bundle in your stamp stash.

It’s filled with cozy, step-by-step card ideas to spark your creativity when your order arrives — so you’re not staring at supplies wondering where to start.

At first glance, an image with this much detail might make you think, “Oh boy, I have to color ALL of that?” Nope! Instead of coloring every animal and every little detail, I left most of the image black and white. Then I added small touches of Gray Granite, Pretty Peacock, and Lemon Lime Twist here and there. Your eye notices the color, but you don’t have to spend an hour coloring the card. That works for me!

The Pretty Peacock background really changes the personality of this card. It creates a strong frame around the mostly white focal piece and makes all those little white dots look almost like falling snow. The snowy background gets a little extra magic from the new Stampin’ Hot Foil System. I used the Swiss Dots Hot Foil Die with silver foil to add those scattered dots across the Pretty Peacock cardstock. I love how the silver catches the light without taking attention away from the woodland animals. It adds just enough shimmer and texture to make the card feel special, while the scattered dot pattern almost looks like snow falling behind them. It’s a simple detail, but it gives this modern Christmas card a beautiful polished finish.

And then there’s Lemon Lime Twist. This is probably not the first color you’d grab when making a Christmas card, which is exactly why I love it here. I used it on the Holiday Greetings sentiment and repeated it in a few tiny areas of the stamped image. You don’t need much of a bright color like this. Just a few little pops are enough to bring the whole card to life.

That’s also why Gray Granite, Pretty Peacock, and Lemon Lime Twist work so well together. Pretty Peacock provides the rich, deep color we often associate with the holidays. Gray Granite gives us a quiet neutral, while Lemon Lime Twist adds something completely unexpected. It feels festive without looking like every other Christmas color combination you’ve seen.

One of my favorite things about the Woodland Wishes Bundle is the personality in the artwork. The bear, deer, fox, bird, and other little woodland friends give you plenty of possibilities for creating cards that feel cheerful rather than formal. And when you have one large image like this, you really don’t need to add a lot more to make an interesting card.

If detailed coloring tends to stop you from using some of your stamps, try this idea using Stampin’ Blends with a set you already own. Stamp the image in black, pick just two or three colors, and add them to a few small areas. You may be surprised by how finished your card looks without coloring every single thing.

And remember, we’re not making Christmas cards just to put them in a box with the rest of our finished projects. Someone needs to find this little stack of woodland friends in their mailbox! Add a personal message inside and send it to someone who could use a little extra Christmas cheer this year.
