How to Make a Twisted Gate Fold Card

Handmade Sunflower Autumn Greeting Card
Share this:

Have you ever made a card that looks almost too fancy to be handmade? If you’ve been wondering how to make a Twisted Gate Fold Card, you’re going to love today’s Coffee & a Card project! This fun fold has an unusual shape that makes it look complicated, but once you understand how the pieces come together, it’s a lot of fun to create.

And those sunflowers? They make the whole card feel like a little burst of sunshine! I colored the sunflower with Stampin’ Blends to give the petals a little extra depth and dimension, making it look like it’s ready to pop right off the card!

What makes a Twisted Gate Fold Card so interesting is the way the angled panels come together. Instead of opening like a traditional card, the folded sections create a decorative front that immediately catches your eye.

For this project, I’m using the Radiant Sunflower Stamp Set and Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper. The cheerful sunflower patterns are a wonderful match for this fold because they add color and movement without needing lots of extra decorations.

I especially like how the sunflower focal point brings everything together. It gives your eye a place to land while letting those unusual folded panels show off a little.

For this card, I chose Crumb Cake, Golden Glow, and Cajun Craze. Crumb Cake provides a warm, neutral foundation that lets the sunflower patterns stand out. Golden Glow brings in that sunny yellow we naturally associate with sunflowers, while Cajun Craze adds a rich, earthy contrast.

Together, these colors create a warm, welcoming combination that feels just right for fall, but isn’t limited to autumn. You could send this card any time someone needs a little sunshine in their day. And that’s one of the things I love about sunflower cards. They’re cheerful without needing a special occasion!

Here’s something you’ll want to know before you pop this card in the mail: because of its finished size, this Twisted Gate Fold Card doesn’t fit into a standard card envelope. But that doesn’t mean you can’t send it!

I’ve got another video showing you how to make your own envelope, so you can create one that fits your finished card. You can watch that video here. That way, you can enjoy making something a little different without wondering how you’re going to mail it afterward.

I think this would be a lovely card for a friend who needs cheering up, someone celebrating a birthday, or even a neighbor you haven’t seen in a while. You don’t need a special occasion to send a handmade card.

Sometimes a cheerful sunflower and a little note saying “I was thinking of you” are more than enough. And imagine how much fun the recipient will have opening those unusual folded panels!

So grab your supplies, give this Twisted Gate Fold a try, and don’t forget to send it to someone who could use a little sunshine. Let’s fill those mailboxes with stamping sunshine!
