If you’re new to stamping or just looking for a relaxing creative break, this simple handmade Christmas Card for beginners is the perfect place to start. Using the Ornamental Christmas Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up!®, this peaceful monochromatic design proves you don’t need a pile of supplies to make something beautiful.

When I first created this card, I was inspired by the calm feeling of a snowy winter forest. With just one ink color and a few simple layers, this project comes together quickly — no fancy techniques required. The trees are stamped in Secret Sea ink on crisp white cardstock, creating that soft “misty morning” look that instantly feels serene and elegant.

The subtle patterns of the Peaceful Gardens Designer Series Paper add just the right amount of contrast, while the Cloud Cover Faux Linen Ribbon brings a hint of texture and quiet luxury. And because everything coordinates so seamlessly, you can spend less time overthinking and more time enjoying the process.

Whether you’re making your first Christmas card or just want to create something effortlessly pretty, this card design is simple enough for anyone to make — and stunning enough to proudly send out this season.

Cardmaking Tips

  • When creating monochromatic cards, focus on contrast. Use darker stamping in the foreground and lighter stamping (stamped off once) in the background for a forest-like depth.
  • Add small touches of ribbon or texture — like the Cloud Cover Faux Linen Ribbon — to give dimension without overwhelming the simplicity.
  • Stamp your sentiment on a separate strip of cardstock for crisp alignment and a clean look.

Make a Simple Handmade Christmas Card in Minutes!

This Simple Handmade Christmas Card for Beginners uses the Ornamental Christmas Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up!®, creating a peaceful monochromatic design with minimal supplies.

Supplies Needed

  • Basic White Cardstock: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4"
  • Peaceful Garden Designer Series Paper: 4" x 5-1/2"
  • Basic White Cardstock: 3" x 5-1/2"
  • Basic White Cardstock: 1/2" x 4"

Instructions

  • Fold the 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" piece of Basic White cardstock in half at the scoreline to create your card base.
  • Adhere the 4" x 5-1/2" piece of Peaceful Garden paper to the front of the card as shown in the sample.
  • Using the 3" x 5-1/2" piece of Basic White cardstock, ink up the pine tree image using Secret Sea ink and stamp onto the Basic White cardstock. Stamp again without re-inking to the left and then to the right of the first image. Repeat at various heights until the entire cardstock is filled. Adhere to the center of the card front.
  • Cut 3-3/4" of the Cloud Cover Faux Linen Ribbon and adhere towards the bottom of the stamped trees. (I adhered about 1/4" up from the bottom of the Basic White cardstock.)
  • Stamp the sentiment onto the 1/2" strip of Basic White cardstock using Secret Sea ink. Using scissors, cut the right side at an angle and adhere onto the top part of the Cloud Cover Ribbon using Stampin' Dimensionals to finish. Tip: line up with the top of the ribbon so that most of the Ribbon will show – see sample for placement.
