If you’re looking for a handmade thank you card that’s elegant, yet features a fun surprise inside, you’re in the right place. This Coffee and a Card with the Pop-Up Petals Bundle by Stampin’ Up!® is one of those projects that looks impressive but comes together in minutes—even if you don’t consider yourself crafty (yet!).

Today’s card is soft, pretty, and calm—just like the morning I hope you’re having when you join me weekly for Coffee and a Card! This week, I’m using the Pop-Up Petals Bundle, which has quickly become one of my favorite sets. The Two-Step stamping technique makes it feel like you worked harder than you actually did, and the images have that hand-drawn charm that always looks good.

And this time I paired it with the Brushed with Beauty Designer Paper, which has these warm neutral stripes that make the whole card feel cozy and grounded. It’s a very “sit by the window with your mug and take a moment” kind of vibe. And as a Thank You card, it’s perfect!

Let’s Talk About Color

120325Colors

The color combo is warm and easy too: Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral, and Petal Pink. Nothing loud. Nothing fussy. Just soft, friendly tones that make your flowers glow. If you ever feel unsure about picking colors, this is one of those combos that will never let you down. It’s gentle enough for sympathy or thinking-of-you cards, but still bright enough to work for thank you cards or birthdays. It’s basically the leggings-and-cardigan of color palettes—comfortable, forgiving, and always cute.

We start with a simple striped background, then build the focal piece using basic Two-Step stamping. The flowers come together fast: outline first, then the bold petals, then quick centers stamped right in. The only coloring required was a Light Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend for the leaves. And the vase is one of my favorite shapes in the whole bundle—round, playful, and forgiving even if your stamping isn’t perfect before your coffee kicks in.

Pop-Up Thank You Card

This Coffee & a Card project features a soft, simple thank you card made with the Pop-Up Petals Bundle and Brushed with Beauty Designer Paper. It uses easy Two-Step stamping on the front and includes a tiny pop-up flower basket inside for a sweet surprise.

Supplies Needed

  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4"
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 5-1/4" x 8-1/4" scored at 4-1/8"
  • Brushed With Beauty Designer Paper: 4" x 5-1/4"
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 2-1/2" x 4"
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 2-1/4" x 3-3/4"
  • Brushed With Beauty Designer Paper: 1" x 1" (2 pieces)
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 1" x 2-1/2" Scrap for Die-Cutting
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" Scrap for Die-Cutting

Instructions

  • Fold the Crumb Cake Cardstock in half at the score line. Burnish well with your bone folder.
  • Using the 5-1/4" x 8-1/4" scored piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock, line up the largest "pop-up" die so that the 2 arrows are lined up on the score line. (See video for more details.) Run through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine to create the pop-up mechanism.
  • Leaving the Very Vanilla cardstock flat, stamp the sentiment of choice on the right side using Calypso Coral ink. Adhere the 2 pieces of 1" x 1" Brushed With Beauty onto the squares on the pop-up mechanism.
  • Carefully fold the card in half with the pop-up mechanism popping out. Make sure all score lines are well burnished. Adhere to the inside of the card base, being careful to not adhere adhesive too close to the pop-up mechanism so that you don't glue it shut.
  • Adhere the 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Brushed With Beauty paper to the front of the card.
  • Using the 2-1/4" x 3-3/4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, stamp the sentiment at the bottom of the cardstock using Calypso Coral ink. Above that, stamp the vase using Crumb Cake ink. If desired, mask the top of the vase (see video) and stamp the set of 4 flowers using Black Memento ink.
  • Stamp the bold "petals" stamp onto the open floral image using Flirty Flamingo ink. Stamp the inside of the flowers using Petal Pink ink. Color in the leaves using the Light Granny Apple Green Blend.
  • Adhere the stamped Very Vanilla cardstock to the 2-1/2" x 4" Crumb Cake mat and then adhere to the front of the card.
  • Using the scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock, stamp the small flower using Black Memento ink 3 times. Color in using the Flirty Flamingo or the Petal Pink stamps. Color in the leaves using the Light Granny Apple Green Blends. Run through the Cut & Emboss Machine and die-cut using the corresponding die from the Pop-Up Petals Bundle Dies.
  • Run the scrap of Crumb Cake cardstock through the Cut & Emboss Machine and die-cut the "flap" die (see video – this die cuts out 2 pieces.) Fold each piece in half and burnish well, apply glue to one inside of the flap and adhere to the back side of the pop-up mechanism. Optional: you can also glue down the front flap but I prefer to leave this "open and unglued."
  • Using small dots of glue, glue the 3 flowers inside the pop-up box at varying heights are desired.
  • Refold card base again and burnish all folds well to finish.

Notes

Worker Bee (for Confident Cardmakers)
Worker Bee projects are designed for the crafter who has a bit more time and enjoys creating a handmade card that features a technique or tool. In many cases, a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine is required for die-cutting and/or embossing.
Tried this card?Let us know how it turned out!

But the real fun comes when you open the card. There’s a tiny pop-up basket inside that holds three sweet little blooms. It looks much harder than it is. The die does all the work—truly. A couple of folds, a strip of pretty paper, and suddenly your card opens to a little “surprise moment” that feels extra thoughtful. Even if you’re new to dies or pop-up pieces, this one is so simple you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried it sooner. And if you gift this card? Get ready for the “wait… how did you do that?!” texts.

If you like this card, make sure you watch a recap of the live video, as well as the written Tutorial, which has all of the measurements and step-by-step instructions. Whether you stamp along live or catch the replay, you’ll end up with a card that feels soft, warm, and ready to mail. And if you’re like me and love cards with a little hidden surprise? That sweet pop-up basket inside is going to make your whole morning.

Don’t forget to pin this for later!
