My Favorite Card Layout

A Happy Thing Stampin Up

I thought today I would share with you my all-time favorite card layout.

I love this layout because it’s simple, easy & clean.  My favorite 3 things in a card design!

You can use this layout in any color of cardstock, but I especially love it using Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock.  It uses:

  • Base card – 1 sheet of cardstock cut in half, either 5.50″ x 8.50″ or 4.25″ x 11″
  • Mat layer – 4″ x 5.25″ (1/4″ smaller than folded base card)
  • Focal point layer (where you will stamp your image.)  This can be done using a punch or a shape using a Big Shot die.   (And you can always just cut a piece of cardstock to create a square or rectangle too.)

My favorite part of this card is the “wainscoating” look at the bottom of the mat.  This can be done with either the scoring blade on your paper trimmer or  — if you want to make it REALLY easy — use the Stampin’ Up! Simply Scored Scoring Tool.

With the long side of your mat up along the top “ruler”, score at 1.75″

Turn 90 degrees and now score every 1/4″ from the top of the cardstock just to where you made the first score line.  Adhere to the base card using Dimensionals and then stamp your image and add to the card.

In this card, I used the bird from A Happy Thing Sale-A-Bration Stamp Set (free with a $50 order thru March) which I then colored in with Coastal Cabana & Pumpkin Pie Blendabilities.  (Note:  I also did a bit of sponging with the Soft Sky ink pad.)

This also makes a fabulous single-color (or monocromatic) card:  one image, stamped in a knock-out color (like Soft Suede or Blackberry Bliss) and you’re good to go!

Give this design a try and let me know what you think!
